Breathable Adhesive Aftercare Instructions: (SecondSkin, Tegaderm, Saniderm)

Depending on the location of your tattoo and the amount of bleeding that is expected, you may receive a Saran wrap or padded bandage for the first 2-24 hours or you may have an initial Second Skin bandage. Should you notice that the entire area of the Second Skin beyond the perimeter of the tattoo is red, swollen or hot to the touch, you may have a slight reaction to the bandage film and replacing the bandage is not recommended.

  •   Remove the bandage the morning after you get your tattoo and wash it with with clean hands and warm soapy water in order to remove all of the blood, plasma, and excess ink. In the shower is easiest. To remove an adhesive bandage with minimal irritation to the skin it is recommended to remove in the shower by stretching the film like a command strip so that is slowly releases and doesn’t tug on the skin.

  •   Dry it with a clean paper towel, and let the tattoo air dry until skin isn't moist any more - roughly 10-15 minutes while keeping it clean and not touching the tattoo.

  •   Remove the white side of the adhesive bandage material and place the adhesive side on the skin so that it completely covers the tattoo gently stretching the film taught to avoid large or multiple bubbles. Then remove the gridded plastic side to leave the thin plastic bandage. Use as many pieces as necessary to have at least a one inch border around every edge of the tattoo. Overlap pieces if you are using multiple.

  •   This bandage stays on for up to 5 days. There will be liquid accumulated under the bandage. It's normal. Do not worry.

  •   You can shower and do everything normally. Don't scrub near the edges of the film while showering, Ignore the area unless it begins to leak. if that does happen, you can wash off anything that has leaked out, dry it completely, and place another small patch over the affected area.

  •   In the event that the bandage is coming off on its own and exposing the tattoo within the first 3 days it should be totally replaced. Take the Saniderm off in the shower, wash the tattoo again, allow it to dry completely and reapply fresh adhesive bandage.

  •   After 5 days, remove the bandage in the shower and wash the tattoo with warm soapy water. After this, the tattoo will mostly be healed and you can use a basic, unscented lotion whenever the tattoo is dry and itchy.
